The rules every story follows
1. The primary source, linked
Every story links what it rests on: the official statement, the law or court filing, the data release, or the research paper itself. Not another outlet’s summary of it.
2. Known, and not known yet
Every story opens with two boxes. Known holds what is confirmed and who confirmed it. Not known yet holds what is still open. A story cannot be published with either box empty.
3. Named sources
We name who said what. If a claim comes from someone who will not be named, the story says so and treats the claim as unconfirmed.
4. Policy without a side
The Policy desk reports what changed, who it affects, and what each side has said, in their own words and with a source. Phase does not endorse parties, candidates or positions.
5. News, never advice
The Finance desk reports markets, companies and the economy. It never tells a reader to buy, sell or invest. Nothing in Phase is financial, legal or investment advice.
6. Science from the paper
Science stories cite the study, say what it measured and what it did not, and mark a preprint as not yet peer reviewed.
7. Photos are credited
Every photo carries its credit. We use photos we have the right to use.
8. Mistakes are corrected in the open
When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so at the foot of the story, with the date. Every correction is also listed on our corrections page. Seen a mistake? Write to aaryan@falmoran.com.
